WaterCare: Tāmaki Water Upgrades - December 2025

Watercare is planning to upgrade the water network in Tāmaki. To help inform design, and minimise construction issues, contractors need to undertake investigations to understand the ground conditions along the pipeline route. Conducting these investigations will ensure there is minimal disruption to the existing services and allow for timely and efficient construction.

These investigations will involve securely fencing the work site, drilling into the proposed site, logging a sample, installing a ground water monitoring device and reinstating the area. Once complete, there will be a small grassless patch with a small cap visible on the surface and it will remain in place for approximately one year.

Ground investigations will take place in the road, berms and reserves along: Apirana Avenue, Dalton Street, Eastview Road, Howard Hunter Avenue, Line Road, Maybury Street, Merton Road, Point England Road, St Johns Road, Stewart Avenue, Swainston Road, Taniwha Street, Tripoli Road, and Queens Road.

Additional ground investigations will take place in the road and berms along: Line Road, Maybury Street, Dalton Street, Elstree Street, Point England Road, Kings Road, Tripoli Road and Stewart Avenue. These are expected to take place on Sunday 7th and Monday 8th December.

  • General working hours are between 7am-6pm.During working hours, construction noise, vibration and dust should be expected but will be kept within our consented limits.
  • Night works may be required in some locations. We will contact nearby properties closer to the time with confirmed dates and our working hours.
  • Each site will be securely fenced while the works are underway. In general, the investigations are expected to take approximately two days per drill site. The reserve sites are expected to take approximately three days per drill site.
  • Please note these works are weather dependent. Should there be any changes you will be notified in advance.

An approved traffic management plan will be in place. You may notice the following temporary changes:

  • Stop/go systems
  • Reduced lane widths
  • Reduced speed limits
